A Nanjing woman’s life was saved yesterday when she fell from her sixth-floor apartment but landed in a large heap of excrement.
The woman, whose name was withheld by the Modern Express, a local daily newspaper, had been doing the washing on the balcony of her home about 4pm.
While hanging the clothes onto racks outside the balcony, she suddenly lost her balance and fell.
Fortunately for her, workers were dredging a blocked septic tank that had been the subject of many complaints from neighboring residents.
They had dug up so much excreta that it was piled in a heap more than 20 centimeters high.
The woman fell right onto the pile which was sufficiently soft to deaden her fall.
Doctors said the woman suffered only minor scrapes.
